**THIS IS AN AUTHENTIC, ORIGINAL, FULLY DOCUMENTED SUPERBIRD, NOT A CLONE**
Thank you for viewing our beautiful original Superbird! This is an awesome example of the Mopar racing legacy. Developed from the Road Runner Coupe, the Daytona/Superbird was designed to compete with Ford Talladegas in NASCAR superspeedway. It did that and much more-in one year this car changed racing forever. The innovative aluminum wing and front clip made a drag coefficient of just 0.28 (far better than most cars made today). Perhaps it was that that allowed it to set a NASCAR record of 200.447MPH that wasn't broken again for 13 years! Alas, shortly after Plymouths powerful rocket appeared, NASCAR changed the rules, making 1970 the last year of this truly amazing automobile. This is your chance to own a very rare piece of automobile racing history.
This car is one of 626 automatic 440 4V Superbirds. It has had 3 owners over it's 85,000 miles, all of which is documented. It comes with the original broadcast sheet, NASCAR modification sheets and warranty paperwork. The car also comes with a full documentation of the 3 year nut-and-bolt restoration, including photos and all receipts. Since restoration the car has been driven less than 100 miles.
Exterior: The car was in storage for 15 years before the current owner purchased it and meticulously restored it over 3 years. It was disassembled and stripped to the bare metal then completely refinished, as you can see in the photos. The trunk pan was replaced using YearOne sheet metal, all other panels are original metal, are solid, and line up perfectly. Body was painted with a PPG urethane basecoat/clearcoat in Chrysler B-5 blue. All brightwork, glass, vinyl roof and emblems/trim look like brand new. The undercarriage is as clean as any other part of the car. The 15" Mopar Rally wheels compliment the overall design lines perfectly. In the trunk come the original 2 jacks sold with the car, one for the rear bumper, one for the nose.
Interior:
Inside the car has been redone with a new headliner, bucket seats, carpet and
weather-stripping all from YearOne. It is in perfect condition (see photos).
The vent window frames were also rechromed. The dash plastic was disassembled
and rechromed/refinished by Mr. G's of
Mechanical: The block on this car was
warranty replaced in 1971 and is dated as such. The 440 Super Commando has
been completely rebuilt with less than 100 miles on it. Cylinder walls were
within tolerances so it still has the standard bore and stroke. The only non
original engine parts are a street Hemi grind cam shaft (280 duration, .474
lift) and Edelbrock carb, but the car comes with the original rebuilt Carter
AVS 4BBL carb. The original 727 Torqueflight transmission was rebuilt to stock
specifications; rear pumpkin is also the original 8 3/4"posi geared at
The photos should tell you everything else you need to know
