Described as the gentleman's sports car, the GTX was designed as an upscale version of the budget RoadRunner. The upcharge for the GTX from the RoadRunner was $600, which by today’s standards might not seem like much, but back then it accounted for 20% of the price! The result of this is that there were 6 times more Roadrunners built than GTX's, a fact that makes this a rare and sought after car!
 
So what was it that set the GTX apart so far from the Roadrunner that people would shell out 20% more?
1. Power! Standard engine for the GTX was a 440 Super Commando pushing out 375hp. The 1970 440 was also superior to other years as it had several internal improvements.
2. Heavy duty driveline: transmission, suspension and brakes were all beefed up for the GTX
3. Comfort. Unlike the base Roadrunner, GTX's came with bucket seats, consoles and had leather available. This car also came with air conditioning, AM radio and leather!
4. Styling. The GTX had added external features that really set it apart from the Roadrunner, there was no mistaking this car meant business!
 
This particular car has been restored to like new condition all around. It came from Tennessee 5 years ago and has had a thorough cosmetic and mechanical restoration done over that time  to become what you see today. Several thousand dollars were spent, all of which is documented, and a book of receipts comes with the car.
 
Body: The body was very solid when restoration began. The lower quarter panels and trunk pan have been replaced; otherwise the car was extremely solid. It was originally a burnt orange metallic car with black interior and black vinyl top. Since this car was made to drive rather than show, the owner decided on a beautiful Lime Light paint job with a white vinyl top and white interior. As you can see it really makes the car stand out! All of the chrome and brightwork look great as does the glass. The car sits on staggered 15" Weld wheels that look awesome.
 
Mechanical: This car needs nothing mechanically. It has been meticulously gone through and runs perfect. The motor is a 440 (NOM) that has been rebuilt and bored .30 over and is pushing out around 395hp at the crank. The 727 Torqueflight transmission was also rebuilt. The car also has a new radiator, water pump, wiring harness, intake, carb, exhaust, braking system, complete suspension, gas tank and electronic ignition (inside factory distributor). The rear end is geared at the original 3.23.
 
Interior: The interior, as you can see, is in excellent shape. The seats, doors, and rear panels have been refinished in white leather by Legendary Auto Interior. Dashboard and rear dash were also replaced. The car is an original console car and it looks great. Dashboard gauges have all been refinished and look better than brand new.
 
Issues: Car was a factory air conditioning car but none is installed.

    Winner must contact us within 24 hours of auction end. Within 48 hours at the close of the auction, 10% of the purchase price must be paid. We will accept cash, money order, cashiers check, or wire transfer. Buyer can use Paypal if they agree to pay all fees and charges (3% www.Paypal.com ). If winner is not picking up the car in person, and having it shipped, payment is still due one week from auction end. The winner is responsible for ALL THE SHIPPING COSTS AND FEES.
